The top city among those who moved
from one state to another last year is Oregon, according to United Van
Lines’ annual migration study, which tracked 129,000 moves in the United
States in 2013.
Oregon beat out Washington, D.C., which had topped the list for the
last five years. Washington dropped to fourth place in this year’s
survey.
The top inbound states in 2013 were:

"Business incentives, industrial growth, and relatively lower costs
of living are attracting jobs and people to the Southeastern and Western
states, such as South Dakota, Colorado, and Texas," says Michael Stoll,
a UCLA economist. Also, "we're seeing continued migration to the
Pacific Northwest as young professionals and retirees are drawn to [its]
amenities, including public transit, green space, and the local arts
and entertainment scene.”
Meanwhile, some of the states with higher costs of living saw more
residents moving out. The following states had the most outbound moves
in 2013:
