Texas outpaced the rest of the 50
states in new-home sales in 2013, according to the 2014 Texas Home
Buyers and Sellers Report, which is produced by the Texas Association of
REALTORS®. Thirty percent of all Texas homes purchased in 2013 were new
homes, a 4 percent increase from 2012. That is also nearly double the
share of new-home sales among all U.S. home sales during that time
period, according to the report.
“Households are earning more income, and new-home development
continues to play an increasingly important role to meet our state’s
ever-increasing housing demand,” says Dan Hatfield, chairman of the
Texas Association of REALTORS®.
Texas home buyers had a median household income of $91,700 in 2013,
up 9.6 percent over 2012. That also is nearly double the increase in
median household income among home buyers nationwide, which rose 5.6
percent to $83,300 during that time period.
